This post is for Wild Bird Wednesday.
I had good views of the family of Black Swans while I was in at the park in Gympie the other day. The young ones were still staying quite close to the parents. Looking closely at them I could see they were losing some of their baby fluff. This little turtle was sitting on a rock out in the middle of the pond but began moving as one of the swans came closer. The swan really wasn't interested and the turtle settled down again.
they're kinda funny looking in their awkward teenage phase. :)
ReplyDeleteNice close ups of these beauties!! Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
ReplyDeleteNice to see real wild Black Swans - lovely shots. Your post amused me Mick as over here Black Swans are kept in wildfowl collections but occasionally one or two might escape as wildfowl do - they can fly. The local twitchers then have to go and get the bird on their lists in case it becomes a naturalised species - you couldn't make it up!
ReplyDeleteblack swans is a marvel. :) And the juveniles...well their moms probably think they are cute. :) Never seen a juvie before. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteLove the black swan and the cute juvie. The shot with the turtle is awesome. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteNow that is an amazing bird! Love that the shot with the juvie behind Momma. Great shots....would love to see those in the wild.

ReplyDeleteThey are really lovely birds. I like the turtle shot.
ReplyDeleteHi there - nice pictures - the detail in the feathers really does make a mockery of calling these birds "black'!

ReplyDeleteI absolutely love Black swans!
There are a couple of lakes near the Westfield Shopping Centre at North Lakes (on the Northside of Brisbane). There have been three sets of cygnets on the lake this year. We have tried to visit every 4 weeks to check up on their progress. Last time we visited (2 weeks ago) we were hoping to catch up on the second lot who are about 8 weeks old now, photograph them and also to see the brand new family only hatched a week or two before... sadly the newest family had dwindled to only 2 cygnets (originally 4) and those 2 had been attacked by one of the adult swans and relocated to the Sunshine Coast with a surrogate mother. It was quite sad to hear...
I plan to post on the progress of the second family in the next week or two.
Those Black Swans are beautiful, and so gracefully portrayed. I hear they can be quite aggressive in defense of their young.
ReplyDeleteHow nice to see those black Swans! Lovely photos of them. I would love to se those.
