But I am not sure for whom? The Blue-faced Honeyeater (on the left of the photo) and the Magpie Lark (on the right) definitely considered the Kookaburras to be potential trouble and were harassing them by flying at them. Eventually the Kookaburras got tired of it all and flew off! In the absence of many large trees the birds often perch on the electricity wires.

Awww,.... that would be 4 Lifers in one catch for me ;)
ReplyDeleteThey are all gorgeous, pest or not :)
Do the Kookaburras belong to the 'Kingfisher family'?
(And tell me if you don't mind, what camera you use that lens with?)
:)
what a nice couple and a nice shot with the other birds on the side!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great sighting, all four of the birds sitting close on the wire. I just love those Kookaburras. Great captures!
ReplyDeleteHi Nicole, Dreamfalcon and Eileen. Thanks for your comments. Isn't it funny that we always like to see what is not in our own backyard. I was wondering if the Kookaburras were just to common to post about! Nicole, I have a Pentax K200D but the Sigma lens has mounts for Canon and Nikon as well. btw we LOVE visitors to Australia - especially when they want to look at our birds.
ReplyDeleteImpressive birds and impressive pictures Mick. Great stuff.
ReplyDeleteThanks Phil.
ReplyDeleteI'm so jealous! I wanna see these guys so badly. Love the photos, Mick - really really nice!
ReplyDeleteThanks JN
ReplyDeleteI would love to see the Kookaburras too and hear that incredible call in person! It is strange about the birds in your own backyard thing. That is one thing that makes bird blogging so great, seeing other people's backyard birds!
ReplyDeleteHi Larry, I agree! I get a lot of enjoyment from reading other bird blogs - plus I learn a lot too - it usually makes me go back to my own bird books to check details.
ReplyDeleteMick I am already dying to see backyard birds such those in yours. So which bird finally got the rights to the electric wire? :)
ReplyDeleteHi Bob, when I last looked there was just one Kookaburra sitting there.
ReplyDeleteAh, would love to hop on over *sigh*
ReplyDeleteMaybe we'll make it one day. Hubby was thinking once to take a job over there. You never know :)
Made some contacts here in the Nikon shop.
Inquired this morning, if they by any chance sell this lens :)
Still need to work for some more bucks though :)
Looks like they are having an interesting conversation. Maybe they were people watching? ;)
ReplyDeleteHi Nicole, Good luck with ALL your plans - travel and lens too!
ReplyDeleteHi Halcyon, I often have the feeling that the birds are watching me twice as carefully as I watch them!
