White-breasted Woodswallow

I was on an early morning walk along the bayside when this White-breasted Woodswallow (Artamus leucorhynchus) obligingly posed on the branch of a dead tree. At this hour of the morning the sky seems such an intense blue but without the glare of later in the day.
I frequently see these birds in this area although they don't always sit where I can get photos.
Have a look at the Bird Photography Weekly site.

  1. I love the way they always huddle up together. One of our techies looked after a woodswallow that had collided with something or other and need some TLC for a while. While she was doing paperwork, she would sit with her free hand in the cage so the bird has something to cooch up next to.

  2. Hi Snail, I have seen them all huddled together when they are roosting but had no idea that they would transfer that to a carer! Really nice story, thanks.

  6. Nice catch.
I got lots of dusky woodswallows at dawn in St.George.
Was a bit surprised to see them feeding on Gum blossoms.

  8. Hi Mick
They are such nicely designed birds - very Art Deco in style, I always think.
Lovely photos. I agree with the others re photo 3.

  9. Thanks for your comments Arija, Birdfreak, Tabib and Denis. I like your idea, Denis, that they have an 'art deco' style.
