Try Again...

Some Other Time.
I frequently see Fantails around here but have yet to get a good photo of one. However, when Gouldiae showed great photos and said that they "frequently almost pose for a picture" I decided it was time to try again! Well, it didn't work any better this time! The one I was watching came down close but flew off into the tops of the trees again immediately. The best I could manage was a distant photo with the tail spread - way up in the top of the tree.
While I was waiting with as much patience as I could manage, another little bird came down close and really did sit and wait for its photo to be taken! It was a Striated Pardalote (Pardalotus striatus).
Some of my friends call this the "chip-chip" bird because of its distinctive two note call. It's a very cute little bird and I was glad to get some more photos - BUT - I still want at least one good photo of a Fantail!

  2. at least you had a "consolation" bird. :) not to worry, you'll get your fantail photo one of these days. here in the Philippines, nesting fantails actually attack humans (and anything that moves) whenever they think their brood is in danger

  4. Wow Mick that Chip chip" looks a really colourful chap. I think I'd like to see more pictures of that as well as the fantail.

  5. Hi Bob, your fantails sound a bit like our Willie Wagtail (which belongs to the fantail family) which will attack most other birds when it is nesting. Not humans fortunately!

Hi Naturefootstep, hope I get a good photo - soon!

  6. Hi Phil, I find the birds I really want to photograph are the ones that don't come and sit and wait for you - unfortunately! I had a friend tell me last night she is still waiting for a good photo of the Pardalote!

  7. I want you to get a good picture of the fantail too! Mostly because I have no idea what it is. The 'chip-chip' is adorable and he did pose beautifully. (that's so cute that now I can't remember the real name..I'll go back and learn it after I send this)

  8. Love those Pardalotes in any guise they come. That chip-chip is so distinctive.
I have lately had some success with those 'Speedy Gonzales' Fantails. Might dig them out and post them next week.

    Happy stalking!
