For great bird photographs visit the Bird Photography Weekly.
Galahs are quite common around here and yesterday a group flew in to the vacant land next door and started feeding on the seed heads. When I approached with the camera the adult birds flew off but the juveniles obviously didn't see me as a threat so I was able to get some photos of them. The birding book describes juvenile plumage as being 'suffused with grey' in the pink areas of plumage.
Mick, I love seeing all the birds that are so common in your area that I have never seen or, in many instances, even heard of. Great shots of the Galahs. Thanks for sharing via BPW!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kyle, that's the fun of sharing via a site like Bird Photography!
ReplyDeleteYour bird world is so colourful. Its interesting seeing what is common in other parts of the world. Its all new to me. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting NM. Not all are so colorful but the colorful ones are definitely easier to photograph!
ReplyDeleteA very pretty 'common' bird - the enlarged pics really show the pink blending into the grey nicely.
ReplyDeleteGreat pics!
Thanks Christopher - they were especially pretty beside the adults which flew off too fast.
ReplyDeleteThe young birds are dumb as they come, we have them as permanent residents in their hundreds sucking up the last drops of our stock-water and wrecking our River Redgums. On holiday I photograph them, at home we shoot them. They eat up all the natural grass seeds so the paddocks do not naturally regenerate when, and if, the rain finaly comes and totally strip my Almond trees.
ReplyDeleteHi Arija, that sounds not just like a pest but a plague! There's not enough of them around here to do that kind of damage, fortunately.
ReplyDeleteYou have some wonderfully colourful birds down your way Mick - great pics too.
ReplyDeleteThanks Tricia
