The Rainbow Lorikeets were in the red flowering callistemon the other morning. I thought it would make a nice colorful photo and was waiting for this one to get in a better position.
Click on the images to enlarge them.
I noticed movement close-by and then saw another bird had caught a very small branch at the top of the tree and was hanging upside-down. If ever there was a "look-at-me" moment from a bird this was it!
A real "show-off"! It then demonstrated how it could easily hang on with only one leg.
I wasn't quick enough to catch a full photo as it flew off but just managed to get these wings in the bottom of the frame. Slightly out of focus! - but it shows the beautiful under-wing colors.

For those who regularly read my posts you will know that I have been complaining about the lack of rain for months past. Well we have just had the first "proper" storm for a long long time! 50mm (2 inches in the old scale) in about half an hour! Delightful!!
Lovely colors, I have to go to your place and take some photo,

Thanks Maria - you'd be welcome!
ReplyDeleteGreat shots mick. Rainbow Lorikeets are such good value - I have 100's of photos of them, and still take more every time I see them!!
ReplyDeleteAwesoem photos of the Rainbow Lorikeets. I have only seen them in zoos. They are beautiful birds.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots of the Rainbow Lorikeets Mick. The hanging photos are inspirational but that shot of the wings is very cool. It's amazing how much detail we miss, not seeing birds in flight very well.
ReplyDeleteThanks for commenting Tony, Eileen and Larry. I have Lorikeets in my yard every day and never get tired of watching them.
ReplyDeleteThey must be the most colorful backyard birds ever, in addition to their acrobatic agility. What a delight to see them daily.
ReplyDeleteLike Larry, I love that photo of the wings.
Great photos Mick love the wing shot.
ReplyDeleteThanks Wren and Neil, they are outside right now and very noisy as usual.
ReplyDeleteHi Mick
ReplyDelete.
The Hanging Lorikeet shots are worthy of magazine publishing, or commercial printing.

Thanks Denis. I like the 'one-hand' version too. That bird was definitely showing-off!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous birds, wonderful shots!
ReplyDeleteIndeed they have the colors of the rainbow! Lovely shots, Mick, and I'm happy that you finally got your rain.
ReplyDeletesub tropic sounds very good I think. The birds seem to enjoy it. At least if I judge from their acrobatics. :)
ReplyDeleteWOW, lovely and amazing.
ReplyDeleteThat 3rd shot blows my mind!
