I was walking along the bush track at Inskip Point yesterday when a bird flew out of the bushes beside me. It was just a flash of blue/green as it passed me but then it flew down on to a low branch a few meters ahead. I quickly lifted the camera and tried to get a good focus in the very deep shade that the bird had perched in. I was able to get a few steps closer before it disappeared into the thick bush. This was a new bird for me - a Noisy Pitta. Getting a photo was a bonus!

Great one Mick
ReplyDeleteThanks Neil
ReplyDelete...love the green on his back. It's almost florescent!
ReplyDeleteGreat capture, well done on the fast camera work :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful bird - well spotted.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful bird and love the iridescents. Great photo Mick!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on getting this one, Mick! Lovely bird.
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful bird. Nice photo. :)))
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous bird! Like Kelly said..the green looks floresant!
ReplyDeleteHi all, thanks for visiting and for your comments. It was a real thrill to add this new bird to my list and especially to get a good look at its wonderful color.
ReplyDeleteLovely photo Mick! We saw a Noisy Pitta at Mt Tambourine recently but our photos in the low light were disappointing! The colours are so vibrant and you've captured them well. We occasionally see them here and hopefully as we expand their rainforest habitat we will have more sightings.
ReplyDeleteCongratulation on your lifer. Beautiful bird.
ReplyDeleteI have yet to see any Pitta
Thanks for your comments Tabib and Swampythings. The colour is amazing and my Slater's Guide does not show it like this - rather it is quite a bit darker. I did a google image search to see what other photos I could see before I posted here and the ones I found do indeed show it close to how my camera recorded it.
ReplyDeleteHi Mick.
ReplyDeleteGreat work to catch it on the camera. I have never seen one, but their reputation as scurriers precedes them.
Makes a change from terns and waders.
Cheers
Denis
Thanks Denis, these 'bush birds' are also lots harder to find than terns and waders :-(
ReplyDeleteNeat looking bird, I had never heard of them before.
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't get much better than that eh Mick? A life bird that's hard to see, much less photograph and you did an excellent job of doing both at once!
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing how many new things we pick up when we pay attention. I see many more birds much quicker than I used to.
Thanks Bradley and Larry. I am slowly seeing and learning the birds in this area - and I think its using the camera - I can take a number of shots and then look at the bird from different angles when I get home.
ReplyDeleteNice one! Frustrating birds, often walking just too far off or calling ('reep pra-reep')from trees, while sounding as if still on ground.
ReplyDeleteThanks Tony, I reckon it was just luck as I didn't even know to look for them out there.
ReplyDeleteGreat catch Mick with the shimmering wings.
ReplyDeleteThanks Arija
ReplyDeleteWhat a treat!
ReplyDeleteNow, you know I have to ask this --- did you see any broken snail shells?
Sorry Snail! I didn't even look :-( I was just so excited about the bird!
ReplyDeletegonna make a trip to Taman Negara (National Park) soon/again and Pitta sighting is on my list.
ReplyDeleteNice capture.
Hi Yen, that sounds great and don't forget to share the photos with us all, please.
ReplyDeleteYes, of course, and I made a short trip to our National Park (Taman Negara) recently, a very dense Rain Forest, reputed to be the oldest Jungle, the Best Kept Tropical Rainforst of the World. I had sighted the Great Argus and others.
