The Common Koel that I posted about last week is still around. This morning he sat in the pine tree next door. I thought it was worth another post since this time I was able to record both the coo-ee part of his call and also the frantic shrieking at the end. Fortunately he hasn't been calling right outside my window at night again.
WOW! It's very sqweaky and punchy. Now I can understand what you meant in your previous post :D
ReplyDeleteG'day Mick,
ReplyDeleteYes, trying to sleep with that outside the window would be difficult. Trev, my cat sits by my elbow in the mornings as I read the blogs - he nearly fell off the desk this morning!
Regards,
Gouldiae
Hi Tilcheff - yes its not a pleasant noise up close!
ReplyDeleteGouldiae, your tale about your cat gave me a really good laugh! Hope it hasn't put him off the computer for ever!
Excellent Mick, should be more stuff like this on line.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Duncan. I wish I knew more about the calls. Early this morning - at first light - the bird called again and seemed to be answered by one over in the bush but the call was slightly higher pitched. I wonder if it was a female or a juvenile?
ReplyDeleteVery vocal bird.
ReplyDeleteWe have Asian Koel (Eudynamis scolopacea, here
that wake me up one morning.
Hi Tabib, my bird book says the
ReplyDeleteCommon Koel is the Eudynamis solopacea - so maybe we are talking about the same bird.
Hey that really is a beautiful sound especially for a Tasmanian who can turn it of with the click of the mouse. Maybe you could throw your mouse at it. They are fruit eaters I beleive so at least the mouse won't get eaten.
ReplyDeleteThanks Mosura, sounds a good idea to turn it off!
ReplyDeleteLeave the mice and cats to play Tom and Jerry, throw the demented male a female Koel or two .. or three. He's only lonelllly. ;-)
ReplyDeleteWould if I could, Tony. It would be worth it to shut him up!
ReplyDeleteHe has got a real cooee call! Very distinctive. Nice on Mick.
ReplyDeleteThanks Arija - its very distinctive and very loud!
